FABULOUS FRIDAY FINDS: Frontrangell

It is an honor to get to know Deb from Frontrangell. Here is the copy of her interesting story:

Front Range Lather and Lotions is a home based small business. I started making and selling bath and skin products when I had a second hand resale store and my staff each had young teen aged daughters. We needed to find them something to do for the summer. I had retired from the administration of the local school district and do not consider myself “crafty”, however, I did a search on the net and found several suppliers of candle making supplies and noticed they also carried soap making supplies. As a lover of the bath and growing up in the dry climate of Colorado I watched many U-Tube videos, made several small batches and fell in love. Due to the economy we had to close the resale store but I wanted to keep the soap business. After more research I created the ETSY store and here I am today with “The Soap Factory” (as my husband calls it) in my basement.

I have 3 major categories of product.

The advise that would give to someone looking to open a store on ETSY would be:

Be persistent
Research and study similar product stores
Continue to re-work you shop

The web is and will continue to be the most valuable resource in the future. I am learning Facebook, I use U-Tube, and visit sites of similar stores.

I believe in setting high standards in my work and life. In 10 years I will have a small manufacturing area with 3 employees processing, making and shipping orders for a continuous stream of customers. As much as I love creating my products the end result is to make a profit.

1.Tell me a little about yourself.

I've been married to my wonderful husband for 30 years. We have 3 grown children. I teach college math online.

2.Where does your inspiration come from when crafting?
My inspiration mostly comes from nature, color and scent.

3.Who taught you and how did you learn to craft?
My mother taught me to love creating. I learned soap making by reading books, from web based tutorials, from trial and error and lots of practice. I got to go to the national soap making conference last spring, and I get to go again this spring. I learned lots of great things last year and look forward to learning more this year and to networking with other soap makers.

4. Any Specific Tips you have for newbie crafters starting a business in etsy?

Do what you love. Make your budget work for you - don't work for it. You may need to make some things that are less enjoyable if they are your bread and butter. But be sure to focus on something fun and creative at least once a week to keep your creativity and passion alive and thriving. Dream big!

5. Name 3 websites you couldn’t live without.

Etsy, YouTube, Amazon.

6. What are your 3 favorite shops and why.

I have so many favorite shops I can't begin to narrow them down to just 3. Sorry. Etsy is full of so many creative people and shops that I can never see or experience enough.

7. Where do you see your crafting business in 10 years?

In 10 years I see my business still growing, with new, fun products being added each year.
